 Peptide nasal sprays are a convenient way to deliver peptide therapy straight into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. Another peptide nasal spray contains a neuroprotective compound called A1R-CT. It has been shown to tamp down the uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain that leads to seizures and Alzheimer’s. A1R-CT works by inhibiting the protein neurabin, which normally holds back the action of the adenosine 1 receptor in the brain.


Using a peptide nasal spray to deliver A1R-CT into the brain, researchers were able to protect neurons and prevent seizures in animal models of traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s. The team hopes that A1R-CT can be translated into a clinical treatment for people who suffer from seizure disorders or Alzheimer’s disease.
