Vyvanse 40 mg Capsule

Vyvanse 40 mg capsule is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and children. This medicine is in a class of drugs called amphetamines. It works by blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain and increasing their release. This helps to improve focus and decrease impulsivity. It is available only with a prescription from your doctor. This medication is a federally controlled substance because it has a high risk of abuse and dependence.

Take Vyvanse as directed by your doctor. This medicine comes as an oral capsule or chewable tablet and is usually taken once a day with or without food. If you are taking the chewable tablet, be sure to chew it thoroughly. Do not crush or break the tablet. Take this medication with water or fruit juice to prevent choking. If you have trouble swallowing the pill, ask your doctor if you can sprinkle the powder on food or mix it with yogurt to make it easier to swallow. Do not store the mixed dose for later use.

The recommended dose for adults is 30 mg once daily in the morning. Your doctor may increase your dose if necessary. Your child should be weighed and have his or her height measured at regular visits while taking Vyvanse. This medication can slow growth in children. It is important to tell your doctor if your child's height or weight has not been growing at a normal rate.

Side effects may include headache, nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, sleep problems, dry mouth, drowsiness, and increased sweating. Some people may also experience a racing heartbeat. This drug interacts with certain medications, including antidepressants, SSRIs, SNRIs, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and migraine medicines. This can lead to a dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome. Seek medical attention right away if you have symptoms such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness or twitching, loss of coordination, shivering, diarrhea, or seizures.

This medication can also cause a rare type of circulatory problem in the fingers and toes, called Raynaud's disease or peripheral vasculopathy. This can be painful and make the fingers and toes feel cold, numb or painful. It can also make the fingertips and toes sensitive to heat or light. Call your HCP if you or your child have these symptoms.

If you have a history of depression or bipolar disorder, it is especially important to tell your doctor before you take this medication. It can cause a change in behavior that can lead to delusions, hallucinations, or mania. It can also increase the risk of suicide attempts in these patients.

Keep this medication in a safe place to keep it from being stolen or misused. Store it at room temperature and away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this medicine when it is expired or no longer needed.
