Watch Repairs Near Me

If your watch has stopped keeping time, or if you’re noticing it running fast or slow each day, then it may be time for a repair. Depending on the age and condition of your watch, a complete overhaul could be in order.

Some owners of vintage or luxury watches might prefer to work with a specialist instead of a general jeweler, particularly when dealing with delicate movements. In such cases, a watchmaker who specializes in the particular brand can often offer superior service.

While most practising professional watchmakers are trained to service a range of different brands, there are a few independent shops that focus on specific product lines. This allows them to access factory-supplied replacement parts that aren’t available to general jewelers. These workers may not have formal watchmaking degrees, but are often specifically trained 'in-house' to service a limited number of components in a highly organised assembly line fashion.

One such shop is Grand Central Watch, located in the Grand Central Terminal since 1952. The founder’s grandson is renowned for his skills in working with vintage and pre-war watches, which are often the most challenging to repair because of their aging and materials. Ben Clymer, the founder of watch-news site Hodinkee, cites one such project: a 1950s Heuer Camaro that had been handed down to him. "It was in really rough shape and hadn't been properly serviced in probably 30 years," he says. But Grand Central was able to restore the watch, which cost about half of the $1,500 quote that he received from Omega.

Another such specialist is NY WATCH LAB, a little mom-and-pop shop that offers candid, direct customer service and can fix many simple problems on the spot. The owner has extensive knowledge of all types of watches, and is reportedly a quick study when it comes to learning new techniques. Some Yelpers report that he’s also extremely reasonable when it comes to pricing.Watch repairs near me
